A key company identifying number required for exporting from or importing into India is an Importer-Exporter Code (IEC). Unless specifically exempted, no person may export or import without first obtaining an IEC. However, unless the service provider is receiving incentives under the Foreign Trade Policy, IEC is not required for service exports. Since the introduction of GST, the IEC that is issued is identical to the firm's PAN. The DGFT will still issue the IEC separately based on an application, nevertheless. Any of the following legal forms of business can obtain an IEC: proprietorship, partnership, LLP, limited company, trust, HUF, or society. IEC applications may be submitted on behalf of organizations that include partnerships, corporations, trusts, HUFs, and societies. Before applying, the firm needs to have a PAN, a bank account in its name, and a working address. When issuing the IEC, the DGFT may conduct a physical verification of the address. Before applying, please have your PAN, bank information, and firm information handy.
