Many artists are afraid of putting a copyright on their work because they think it makes them look unoriginal. But there’s nothing wrong with being original. Putting copyright on your work protects you only if the law recognizes that you’ve created something new and different. That means that once you put a copyright on your artwork or writing or music, no one else can copy it without permission. If someone accuses you of plagiarism, that person will carry the burden of bringing the proof of plagiarism. Like, trademarks protect one slogan or product name from getting too similar. Copyright protects your work from getting copied. So, if you write an article and then decide to turn it into a book, you can put the copyright on both of them. If someone tries to copy that book or article without asking your permission, then they’re stealing. The only proof you have that that person stole it is because you had a copyright on both.
